Day Five!!

Yesterday was another rad day for us here in Shimoga. We did some more cleaning, more worship and prayer, more eating Irene's food, and had a few new adventures as well.

God is so good to us!

Before I tell you all about our day, I want to share with you guys some pictures of the Home itself, to show you how these kids live, day to day.

This is where they wash all the kids clothes. They mix soap and water in buckets, and beat the dirt out on the rocks, then rinse them from the faucet, and hang them to dry on lines.

These are the rooms where the children sleep every night. There are several children to a bed, and up to 3 children for every blanket. Many children must sleep on rugs on the floor every night, because they don't have enough beds for them all, and at best, they have a thin blanket to sleep with. I sat on one of these beds, and let me tell you...they are quite hard.

This is the bathroom that the kids use. No toilets guys, just concrete stalls, with a drain and a water faucet.

This small room is where they prepare the food for all 70+ children every day (It is really this dark all the time...light sources in this place are minimal)

The food storage room

This room is where they all eat their meals.....right now it's being used to dry the laundry because it's been pouring rain all day.

So....that is a quick picture into the lives of these children and their caretakers. I hope you all know what a blessing it is to be able to give them the gifts that you at Solid Rock provided! We are passing out blankets, clothes, food, medical supplies, and toiletries, thanks to your generous gifts.

And now, for the rest of our day yesterday!

More mopping!! Amanda and Kaitlynn, getting it DONE!

We hung out with the kids some more...

Manni is popular with the ladies....here Tiff is teaching him the sign for "I Love You"

Kaitlynn and Allison doing some more loving on Manni!

Kaitlynn getting some return love from Manni

A few of us got to go into town with Roshan to buy some fish for the evening meal. Here is a picture of the fish market. Those baskets behind the little boy are filled with dried fish!

On the way back we saw these schoolchilrend out doing their version of "P.E.". They are so beautiful!

This is Khan. We met him at a traffic stop because he pulled up next to us on his motorbike and said hi. The people in Shimoga are so friendly to us white Americans! Everytime we say hello, we get delightfully friendly responses.

Roshan and Ben are truely brothers from different mothers! Here Roshan is showing Ben how much bigger he is :)

Kaitlynn and Reema

Tiff and Kiren

On our walk back to the hotel, we saw these beautiful schoolgirls walking home, and we stopped to talk for a bit.

Danielle made friends with some of the neighborhood kids by offering them candy. They multiplied like crazy!

Ben and and John and Roshan went in to town today and ordered two washers and two dryers!! They should be delivered on Monday or Tuesday. It's going to be so great for these people to be able to wash and dry clothes more efficiently :)

All in all, we had an amazing day. Thank you again for all your prayers. We are rushing out the door right now to go to the potential new property to pray over it. The owners are four brothers, and two of them have agreed to the terms that Roshan is offering, and the other two are going to decide sometime today. The broker is to call Roshan sometime tonight. So, please pray with us that if this is the property that God has for the children of Happy Home, that this transaction would be completed smoothly and quickly, so that construction can start soon.

Love to you all!!

very cool blog post today. It is beyond cool for us to wake up each morning and read about your ministry there. I have started gong to bed at night thinking about waking up the next morning and running to the computer to see whats going on there. I must say, I had no idea Amanda knew how to use a mop. Funny I never remember her using one here at home! Good to see she knows how.
Ben, I want you to know Kathy and I prayed especially for you this morning, that you would not be weighed down with the stress of your responsibility. You have a big task, but God is bigger than whatever you need to face. We are just praying that in the midst of your responsibility, you will sense the peace and love of Jesus, and that He will give you opportunity to touch many lives while you are there.
We are praying daily for the entire team and all your ministry there. Your pix shine with the love of Christ and His glory is evident on your faces. Blessings to you today as you serve Him and His children in India.

Love,
Larry & Kathy

We just wanted to let you know that our 7 year old son Renn loves this blog. He wants to know how things are going and loves to see the pictures especially of Ben. Ben, what an impact you have made on Renn!! He can't wait to get up in the morning and read what is new. Renn prays for each one of you nightly. Thank you for allowing yourselves to be used by God while there. We will continue to pray God's blessings as you minister to the children and the people of India.
